Lizzo says she’s not quitting music but ‘negative energy’ instead
(Gray News) - Lizzo says she’s not leaving the music industry despite a cryptic social media post that had many people speculating.
The 35-year-old singer shared a statement last week expressing that she’s over the negativity she’s received, saying that she’s “tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”
“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views,” the statement said in part. “My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”
Lizzo ended the post with the phrase, “I quit,” leading many to believe she was quitting the music industry.
In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Lizzo clarified that she meant she was quitting giving “negative energy” attention.
“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people,” Lizzo said in the video.
Lizzo also said in the post that she hopes to empower others to stand up for themselves and to quit “letting negative people win.”
“I am going to keep being me,” she said in the video. “And once again, I just want to say thank you. The love that I’ve received means more than you know.”
The singer has faced criticism following a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by three of her former background dancers in August 2023. Lizzo put out a statement shortly after denying the allegations, according to CNN.
